Aster macrophyllus tolerate full sun to mostly shade, dry soil to moist. Their leaves are so big that as a groundcover, they will inhibit weed growth. The flowers are a bonus. Normal height is 100 cm; they are frequently shorter.

Native to OntarioLarval host for several moth species as well as some butterflies. The flowers attract a wide variety of insects, especially bees.
