Grows best in full sun and an average to moist soil. Needs good air circulation to limit mildew issues and prevent the lower leaves from dropping. Pinch back 1/3 of the foliage twice before early summer, to maintain shape and foliage vigour. May benefit from staking. Excellent for naturalizing open areas along railroads, roadsides and waste areas.

Native to OntarioLarval host for a wealth of moth species as well as some butterflies. The flowers are a nectar source for bees and butterflies, including Monarchs.
