- Native to Ontario and parts of North America.Larval host for a wealth of butterflies and moths, thereby feeding birds feeding their young. The seeds, buds, and catkins are food for a wide variety of birds, and the nuts feed small mammals. When in need, rabbits and deer may browse the leaves.
