- Grows best in medium moisture and a well-drained soil, however, they will tolerate a wide range of soils. Thrives in some shade and will tolerate full sun if roots are shaded.

- Native to Ontario and other parts of North America.Larval host for several species of butterflies and moths, including the Spring Azure and Dogwood Thyatirid. The flowers produce nectar and pollen for butterflies, bees, moths and other insects. The berries are enjoyed by over 30 species of birds, as well as small mammals.
