Growing Tips & Maintenance
- Mahonia grow best in partial to full shade, in a moist, slightly acidic soil. Though it grows slowly, it suckers, and will need some care to keep it looking formal.
Note
Additional Notes
- Native to Ontario.Larval host for some native moths and butterflies, including the Brown Elfin Butterfly. The flowers produce pollen and nectar, attracting bees, hummingbirds, moths, and other insects. The fruit is enjoyed by midsized birds and mammals. Because the edges of the leaves have small pricks, deer avoid this plant.
