Growing Tips & Maintenance
- Rhus aromatica grows best in a slightly acidic, fertile soil and full sun, however, it will tolerate dry or compacted soils, partial shade, and other urban conditions.
Note
Additional Notes
- Native to Ontario and of special value to many native pollinators. The 'aromatic' in the species name refers to the leaves and stems rather than the flowers. Berries are traditionally used by indigenous peoples to make a tart, lemonade-like beverage rich in vitamin C. The dried berries can be ground and used as a spice in dishes.
