Growing Tips & Maintenance
- A vigorous growing shrub that will tolerate many soil and light conditions. Suckering freely, it is excellent for re-naturalization. Its fruit is edible only if cooked. Uncooked berries may induce illness.
Note
Additional Notes
- Native to Ontario Historically, Sambucus racemosa was commonly known as European red elder and Sambucus pubens also known as S. racemosa var. pubens was known as American red elder. Many authorities have now grouped both of these red elders together under the name of Sambucus racemosa.
